Marriage: Boniface is sometimes said to have married Alice of Savoy, the daughter of Peter of Savoy. This is unlikely, however, since Boniface and Alice were first-cousins-once-removed (Boniface's mother Bertha and Alice's grandmother Adelaide were sisters), and thus far too closely related to be permitted to marry according to canon law.  del Vasto, Boniface Margrave of Savona and Western Liguria (I7325)

Marriage: David's first marriage to Elizabeth is very questionable and was probably a scribal error.  Stone, David (I16144)

Marriage: Hill (1887) incorrectly gives Elizabeth's name as Elizabeth Carpenter. Wheaton, John (I20850)

Marriage: Historians believed Arnulf was married to Judith of Friuli, a member of the Unruoching dynasty, daughter of Count Eberhard of Friuli (d. 866). The dates, however, do not match up. Judith of Friuli died ca. 881. This would have made a marriage between a boy (or at least young) Arnulf and an elder Judith, who was supposed to have produced several children 23 years or so after her death. More likely, therefore, is that he was married to Judith of Sülichgau (born ca. 888), daughter of Margrave Eberhard's grandson Count Eberhard of Sülichgau (d. after 889) and Gisela of Verona.  Family: Arnulf I, Duke of Bavaria / Judith of Sülichgau (F3314)

Marriage: It is probable that Thomas never married. Savage stated that he married Martha Knott based on George Knott's will, and many others have followed suit. The will states that they were not married at that time. Further, the the Plymouth Colony Record on 4 October 1648, state "The Court have ordered, concerning Thomas Dunham, that hee abstaine from coming atte or sending unto Martha Knote of Sandwiche from this present day unti the first Tuesdayof Desember next, untell the court can better deserne the treuth of his pretended contracte with the said Martha Knot, unless the Gouvrner, uppon clearing of thinges, shall give him leave." Two years later, Thomas Tobye and Martay Knott were married on the 18 November 1650. Dunham, Thomas (I18303)

Marriage: This marriage is supposed. Richard may not have been the husband of Christian. There is circumstantial evidence that he is, however the only provable point is that Christian was the mother of Nicholas. Family: Richard Clap / Christian (F178)

Marriages: The question of whether Thomas Doty had one wife or two, has been a matter of conjecture for many years. An examination of all the many court documents proves that Thomas Doty had only one wife, Mary Churchill. Family: Thomas Doty / Mary Churchill (F1865)

Mistake: Farmer (1829) has him a representative six years after his death. This refers to his son.  Houghton, John (I351)

Mother: Weis (1982) states his mother was Clemence of Bar-le-Duc, while Stuart (2002) states she was Joan Basset. I have chosen to follow Stuart. de Dammartin, Alberic III Count of Dammartin and Île-de-France (I8822)

Name on Census Records: Polly was a common nickname for "Mary", and the census taker listed her name as "Mary Foster" probably incorrectly correcting the record. Ware, Polly (I12939)

Name: In Silence's marriage to Nicholas Rockwood, her surname is given as Duntling. Most authors have given up on discovering this family. Will diligent use of a search through many books keying on Silence, I discovered her maiden name was Bowers, and she had been previously married to Elnathan Dunkley. How the name got change in the records is anybody's guess. On the town marriage record there appears to be an extra "n". The Church Marriage Record resolves the issue.

I may be wrong, but all available evidence points to this conclusion.
Bowers, Silence (I19926)

Name: Robinson (1903) gives her name as Mary and has Hannah an earlier marriage. Torry (1985) believes that the marriage record is incorrect, and that there is only one marriage, and that is to Mary Jones. Family: Lt. John Brewer / Mary Jones (F124)

No Third Marriage: Savage confuses the widow with the daughter, Sarah, and has the widow marrying John Sawyer. Littlefield, Sarah (I421)

Occupation: Pope (1900) calls him a weaver. Wales, Nathaniel (I971)

Parents: Evans (1963) states her parents are unknown, however he corrects this in Evans (1976) giving William II as her father. Berta of Burgundy (I22274)

Parents: Evans (1963) states her parents are unknown. Agnes of Aquitaine Queen of León and Castile (I22273)

Parents: Many sources list her as the daughter of Francis and Anne (Fiske) Chickering. In this they take the lead of Savage (1860), but he was proved wrong by Clarence Almon Torrey in 1940. Chickering, Mary (I139)

Parents: She may have been the daughter of Othon. Gerberge (I4310)

Parents: Stuart (2002) states his father was Aethelwulf, Count of Boulogne (918-933), Hunfrid Count of Istria (I5710)

Parents: The 1900 Census gives her birth date as March 1887. Burg, Mary A. (I9814)

Parents: The claim of the Massachusetts immigrant, Anthony Colby, as the son of Thomas and Beatrice (Felton) Colby is without substantiation and most likely completely fallacious. Colby, Anthony (I155)

Parents: The parentage of John Hastings has not been determined. There are a number of guesses, but no proof. Hastings, John (I24609)

Parents: Weis (1982) gives her parents as Bouchard of Montlhéry, Count of Corbeil and Adelaide of Crécy. Melisende de Monthlhéry (I8941)

Parents: Weis (1982) gives her parents as Raymond IV, Count of Barcelona and Marie. Berengaria of Barcelona (I3915)

Parents: Weis (1982) gives his parents as Baldwin of Le Bourg, Count of Rethel and Ida, sister of Eustace II, count of Boulogne. Hugh I Comte de Rethel (I8940)

Parents: Weis (1982) says she was the daughter of Robert the Strong, and Adelaide. Richilde (I3018)

Parents: Weis (1982) states that he was a natural child whose mother was an unknown mistress. Godfrey II Duke of Brabant and of Lower Lorraine (I3195)

Parents: While many early researchers have given Mohammad Ibin 'Abbad as her father, he was in fact he father-in-law. Her parentage is unknown. Zaïda of Seville Princess of Seville and Dania (I5359)

Possible Marriage: Husband of Elizabeth Brown Stone, married Jun 24,1722 at Sudbury,MA.

He was EITHER a son of Joseph Stone and Sarah ____ Stone OR of Nathaniel Stone and Sarah Waite Stone. NOTE: On Dec 13,1705, Joseph Stone mentions a 10 year old son Isaac in a bond, which suggests a 1695 birth date. But the Isaac who died in 1776 is listed as 78y8m old at his death, suggesting the Sep 1697 birth date. An Isaac, born Sep 8,1697, is recorded in Sudbury vital records as a son of Nathaniel and Sarah.

Children: Eunice Stone Bouker, Jonas Stone, Jasper Stone, Nathaniel Stone, Abigail Stone Hapgood, and (probably)Isaac Stone Jr.
Stone, Lt. Isaac (I20436)

Relationship: Some authorities have erroneously stated that Agnes, wife of Richard Rockwood was daughter, and not wife of Zachary Bicknell. Agnes (I19920)

Surname: Early genealogists only give her first name. Adams (1886) and others give her surname as Blackmore. Wyman (1879) states this was the name of Thomas, son of Samuel's wife. Wyman is the only source I have found that disagrees, so will use the surname of Blackmore until I discovered the marriage entry in the original records. Thomas Adams and Marie Blackmore were married in May 1680, clearly not the wife of this Thomas Adams. Mary (I23964)

Surname: Her surname is conjecture. Thurston (1894) states "(maiden name not certainly fixed, but probably Wolterton" Merrill (1899) agrees with this, and offers the following as semi proof: The son John is not again mentioned in the Massachusetts records, but, in 1657, probably the year in which he received his patrimony, he appeared at Hartford, Connecticut, purchased land and was elected a freeman at a session of the general court on May 20, 1658. There he became associated with Gregory Wolterton, one of the first settlers, who was a man of means and the proprietor of a large tan yard as well as of other real estate. At Wolterton's death, in July, 1674, and by his will, John Merrill became the owner of his tan yard and house and, in honor of his benefactor, John's next born son was named Wolterton, There are several possibilities in regard to the relationship between Gregory Wolterton and John Merrill, which led to this large bequest. Gregory may have been the brother of John Merrill's mother, Susannah, in which case it is probable that John went to Hartford because his uncle was there. Or, it is possible that the bequest came solely from Wolterton's interest in a young man who had been useful to him in his business and who took the place of a son, as he had no children of his own, although he was married three times. This does not, however, account for John's presence at Hartford. It is hoped that genealogical research now in progress in England under the direction of the writer may throw some light upon this important question. It has also been stated bv genealogists that John was adopted^ by Gregory Wolterton, but no authority can, at present, be found for this assertion.

While all of this is quite nice, it has been thoroughly disproven by Sanborn (1993)
Susannah (I1573)

Ancestry: In New Light on Henry Sherman, Mrs. B. L. Stratton conclusively proved that Henry Sherman the elder was not the son of that name of Thomas Sherman of Yaxley, Suffolk. That Henry, who was under age 21 in 1551, had a son Thomas who in 1587 was living in Diss, Norfolk, where his children were living in the early 1600s. In contrast, Henry Sherman the Dedham clothier was born about 1512, settled in Dedham about 1534, was fathering children in the 1540s, and was not survived by a son named Thomas. Exhaustive research, by myself and others before me, has yielded no clue to the true origin of the Dedham clothier. Sherman, Henry (I11156)
