SISTER CORRINE
“JANICE ANN”
A Pittsburgh Sister of Mercy for 60 years, died at the Sisters’ Infirmary, Mercy Hall, on January 15, 2015. Born in Latrobe, PA, she was 78 years old. Daughter of James H. and Regina (Quinn) Myers, Sister Corrine entered the Sisters of Mercy from Holy Family Parish, Latrobe, PA in 1954 and made final vows in 1960. Sister Corrine received a degree in Education from Mount Mercy College (now Carlow University). She taught in local Catholic elementary schools, including St. Maurice, Holy Trinity in Ligonier, and St. Clare in Clairton. In addition, Sister Corrine was certified in Spirituality from St. Louis University and worked in the Pastoral Care Department at Mercy Hospital. She founded Nazareth House of Prayer in Gate City, VA in 1984 and served as Director until 1996. Sister Corrine also served as a retreat advisor for many years and was in charge of the Associate program in Pittsburgh from 1997 to 2008. The following reflection was shared by a longtime and devoted friend. Sister Corrine was loving, holy, and devoted to all with whom she interacted. She was extremely helpful to many, many people. She was a wonderful cook and baker, and enjoyed making meals for her family and friends. Following her 12 years at Nazareth House of Prayer, she returned home to the Convent of Mercy in 1996, and was very concerned about how she could help the community. Her many abilities did assist her and she utilized her time well meeting with individuals who requested Spiritual Direction and Directed Retreats. May God bless Sister Corrine for her great patience, the way that she had helped others, and our hope that she will pray for us. Preceded in death by her parents; brothers, John and Dick. Sister Corrine is survived by her brothers, James of Latrobe, Kenneth of Derry Township, Thomas of Largo, FL, Joseph of Manchester, MD, and Frederick of Jeannette; and sisters, Rosemary Marnell of Cape Neddick, ME, Regina Myers of Pittsburgh and Kathleen Fennell of Champion, PA; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received Sunday from 1-8 p.m. at the Convent of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Avenue. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, January 19, 2015, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel at the Convent of Mercy, followed by interment in St. Xavier Cemetery, Latrobe. Arrangements entrusted to the EDWARD P. KANAI FUNERAL HOME, 500 Greenfield Avenue. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sisters of Mercy, 3333 Fifth Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15213 or Carlow University Scholarship Fund.
