  Johnson (1997) relates: In 1695, Jonathan was paid by the voters of Greenwich to build a horse bridge across the Mianus River. He was paid on bushel of corn by each voter and given the use of a team of horses during the construction. The bridge was wide enough so that a horse with two-bushel bags of corn on its back could cross the bridge without touching the sides. In 1697, Jonathan was granted the right to build a gristmill on the Mianus River. It is not known if he ever exercised this right.
