  MRS. J. B. OAKES, LONG ILL, DIES Mrs. Ruth E. Oakes, wife of J. B. Oakes, 481 Second street, died yesterday afternoon at 5 o'clock in the Geisinger Memorial Hospital following a fourth operation. Mrs. Oakes was admitted to the hospital fifteen weeks ago and had eight blood transfusions. Yesterday she operated upon for the fourth time. The deceased was born in Mitflinburg, December 17, 1894, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Rowe, deceased. She was fortytwo years of age. She was a faithful member of the First. Presbyterian Church, Northumberland, and was treasurer of the Ladies Aid Society of the church since it was organized. She was held in high regard by a host of friends. Surviving are her husband, one daughter, Eleanor, and the following brothers and sisters: P. E. Rowe, of Lock Haven; Mrs. G. F. Bowser, of 479 Second street, and Mrs. Rex. O. Spooner of Sunbury. Funeral services will be held on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home, with interment in McEwensville cemetery. Rev. C. P. Lewis of the First Presbyterian church will officiate. Friends may view the body at the home Sunday afternoon and evening, and up until Monday noon. Published by The Daily Item, 4 September 1937
