| According to Rose Scully, after Peg's death "He brought the children home [his mother's home] and taught Eileen to call my mother [Nancy Scobie Scully] "Mom". It was nice for us to have him and the two little ones, but having had for three brief years his own home, even if it was just a few rooms, he wasn't satisfied here. He did his best to make things pleasant for everybody else. He had a quick wit, and even on the most serious occasions he could say something exquisitely funny. There was never anything phony about Jack; he was a real gentleman." |
