| Text | Leonard A. Freeman EASTHAMPTON Leonard A. Freeman, 61, of 35 Parsons St. died yesterday at the Baystate Medical Center Springfield Unit, after a long illness. Born in Springfield, April 9, 1922, he was the of the late Leonard and Ruth (Courtney) Freeman. Freeman had worked for several years as a nursing assistant at the Hampshire County Hospital until his retirement in April 1981. At one time he had worked at the American Bosch and had been employed by the Uni Royal Co. and the Savage Arms Co. He was a past president of the former Fruehauf International Association of Machinists. He had lived in Easthampton for 12 years after moving from Northampton in 1971. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and had served as a medical corpsman in World War II and the Korean War. He was a former member of the Springfield VFW Post 352. He is survived by his wife, the former Bessie L. Burnette; a son, Leonard A. Freeman of Westfield; two step Richard D. Gore of Worcester and Robert E. Gore of Athol; two daughters, Dawn L. Brooks of England and Theresa J. Leonard of Easthampton; a sister, Pearl D'Angelo of Chicopee; and 14 grandchildren and a great son. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in St. John's Episcopal Church in Northampton. The burial will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Florence. Calling hours at the Pease Funeral Home in Northampton are Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Western Mass. Lung Association, 393 Maple St., Springfield, or St. John's Episcopal Church in Northampton. | |
